Meaning, there are no significant physical conditions that contribute to the problem; therefore it’s a functional disease.

Peppermint is a natural antispasmodic that eases smooth muscles in the intestines. that may prove effective for treatment of this irritable bowel syndrome. Peppermint (see vitamins, etc.) may provide short-term relief of IBS symptoms, but study results have been inconsistent. If you'd like to use peppermint, try enteric-coated capsules. Peppermint may make heartburn worse. Before taking any herbs, check with your doctor.
Ginger Tea
Try ginger tea. Ginger soothes all types of digestive problems, including irritable bowel syndrome. For freshest tea, grate a half-teaspoon of ginger into a cup, then pour in hot water, let it steep for 10 minutes, strain out the ginger, and drink the tea. Ginger tea bags are also available. Use four to six cups a day.
